LIVONIA, Mich. – Cornerstone took on their toughest test so far this season in receiving votes Madonna, playing them tough but unable to pull off the upset falling 2-1 in double-overtime. CU trailed 1-0 for most of the second half until Caleb Taylor in his first ever varsity appearance scored a 90
th minute goal to force overtime. In the OT however, Madonna was able to win with a golden goal to drop CU to 3-3-1, 3-2-1 WHAC on the year. The Golden Eagles return to home action vs. Rochester on Wednesday, March 17 at 2 p.m.
The Highlights:
- The first half was all Madonna controlling the possession as they outshot Cornerstone 15-1 in the period. Alan Roman held the Crusaders off the scoreboard however, keeping things tied 0-0 at the half.
- In the second half, Madonna was able to finally find the net, as Sato Masayuki scored in the 67th minute on a rebound off the post to make it 1-0.
- Cornerstone looked down for the count, but in the 90th minute CU was granted a free kick in front of goal. The newest addition to the CU varsity roster Caleb Taylor found the net on the pass from Luke Blickley to tie things 1-1.
- For the third consecutive game, CU went to overtime.
- 12 minutes into overtime, Mat Jaramillo Ospina scored the game winner once again finding the net on a rebound to down the Golden Eagles 2-1.
By the Numbers:
30/4 – Cornerstone was outshot 30-4 on the game.
9 – Alan Ramon was phenomenal in net making nine saves.
1 – Caleb Taylor scored the lone CU goal in his first ever varsity appearance.
