GRAND RAPIDS, Mich – Coming off a 3-2 victory in the WHAC quarterfinal against Lourdes, the Golden Eagles (6-5-1) will continue their season with a tough opponent in 11th ranked Indiana Tech, the top seed in the WHAC tournament. Cornerstone hung on for a 3-2 victory over Lourdes on Saturday.
Jason Lugo, Chana Batan, and
David Mawi were responsible for the CU goals. The win was the first postseason win for the Golden Eagles since 2012.
Logan Johns was recently named NAIA National Defender of the Week thanks to his heroic performance against #8 Northwestern Ohio in the regular season finale, making nine saves in the shutout victory in his first ever goalie appearance.
Nate Kaercher was named to the WHAC All-Newcomer team thanks to a team-leading four goals so far this season. The Golden Eagles have dropped five straight contests to Indiana Tech dating back to 2016. Four of the games were one-goal losses, while the other was a tough 9-0 setback just a few weeks ago.
Indiana Tech Notes
The Warriors are 15-1-1 this season and undefeated in conference play at 10-0-1. Indiana Tech coasted to a 5-0 victory over Rochester in the WHAC quarterfinal. Head Coach John Dunn was recently named WHAC coach of the year. Noe Garcia was named WHAC Player of the Year with a whopping 16 goals and six assists in 17 games so far this season. Defenseman Will Harris was named WHAC Defender of the year. Nine of the 13 WHAC First Team honorees this year belong to Indiana Tech players. Twelve of the team's wins this year have been shutouts, which is the most in the NAIA. The Warriors' goal differential is an impressive 55-8 margin.
