ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Golden Eagles hit the road on Wednesday to take on Concordia. Cornerstone came up just short in game one by a score of 5-4 and then suffered a 2-0 shutout loss in game two. The Golden Eagles record now stands at 12-10, 5-7 WHAC. The team will return to the East side of the state for a doubleheader against Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
Game one
- Sierra Sanchez got things going by leading off the game with a solo home run.
- The Cardinals responded by plating three runs in the bottom of the first inning to make it 3-1. Mikayla Meade was able to limit the damage, though, by stranding two runners in scoring position.
- Alessa Baldwin-Buchner drove in CU's second run of the game with an RBI double in the third inning, making it 3-2.
- Concordia extended their lead even further in the bottom of the third by scoring two more runs to bring it to 5-2.
- Bailey Anson drove in a run with an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning.
- Allisen Martz cut the deficit to just one run by leading off the seventh inning with a solo home run.
- The Golden Eagles were unable to come up with the tying tally as the game ended 5-4.
- Mikayla Meade recorded another complete game, surrendering 11 hits and four earned runs.
Game two
- Sierra Sanchez started the game with a hit again, this time with a base hit, but was unable to come around to score.
- The Cardinals got on the board with an unearned run in the third inning.
- Concordia tacked on their second run with a solo home run in the fourth inning.
- Cornerstone placed two runners on base in the fifth inning but was held scoreless.
- Allisen Martz had a double in the seventh inning but was stranded on base when the game came to a 2-0 close.
- Kaitlin Johnson pitched all six innings, surrendering only three hits and one earned run.
