NOVI, Mich. – The Golden Eagles split their doubleheader with Michigan Dearborn on Saturday afternoon. After a tough 11-2 loss in game one, Cornerstone came alive for an 11-3 victory in game two. The split brings Cornerstone's record to 13-11, 5-7 in the WHAC. Cornerstone will play the final two home doubleheaders of the season next weekend when Lawrence Tech comes to town on Friday and Cleary on Saturday.
Game one:
- The first four Michigan Dearborn batters went single, double, triple, double to start the game, giving the Wolverines a 3-0 lead. Mikayla Meade got out of the inning by leaving two runners on base and ended the inning with a strikeout.
- After UM-Dearborn pushed their lead to 4-0, two more UM-Dearborn runners got stranded in scoring position in the second inning.
- The Wolverines sent 12 batters to the plate in the third inning and busted the game open to 11-0.
- Aliyah Lemmer got CU on the board with an RBI single in the fourth inning
- Morgan Murat hit an RBI double in the fight inning to make it 11-2.
- The game ended 11-2 after mercy rule.
Game two:
- McKenzie Butgereit got CU on the board with an RBI double in the first inning.
- A two-RBI hit from Sydney Carr and RBI hits from Molly Poole and Sierra Sanchez highlighted a six-run third inning to give CU a 7-0 lead.
- Michigan Dearborn scored their first run when an unearned run in the fourth inning.
- The Wolverines tacked on two more in the sixth inning to make the score 7-3.
- A two RBI single from McKenzie Butgereit and RBI singles from Kaitlin Johnson and Sierra Sanchez added up to four more runs for CU in the seventh inning to extend their lead to 11-3, which proved to be the final.
- Kaitlin Johnson pitched all seven innings, surrendered only four hits and two earned runs.
