GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone came into the NAIA Opening Round with a short-handed roster and it cost the Golden Eagles despite a great fight, falling in straight sets vs. Lindsey Wilson to end their season. CU fell 27-25, 25-16, 25-22 to drop to 23-4 and end the unique spring COVID season.
Game Recap: Lindsey Wilson – 3 Cornerstone – 0 (27-25, 25-16, 25-22)
- Cornerstone scored five of the first six points in the match, highlighted by a block from Brooke Nicholson and Kaley Vaughn.
- LWC responded with a 6-0 run to take their first lead, 7-5.
- Cornerstone immediately responded with a 5-0 run of their own that again saw a pair of blocks, this time from Alexis Angus and Olivia Keelean to take a 10-7 advantage.
- CU led 17-13, but the Blue Raiders fought back, taking a 19-18 lead on a Sandra Szczepanska kill.
- After the teams sat tied at 25, back-to-back kills from Lindsey Wilson gave them set one, 27-25.
- LWC dominated early in set two, beginning the set on an 8-0 run.
- Cornerstone was unable to put a run together, scoring no more than two points straight, as an attack error ended set two in favor of LWC 25-16.
- Madison Bidwell recorded a kill in set three that gave Lindsey Wilson a 13-7 advantage.
- A kill from Olivia Keelean brought the deficit back to three at 14-11.
- After trailing by just two at 16-14, LWC was able to push to the finish line, scoring four of the next six points to lead 20-16.
- CU won four straight points on match point, but LWC saw a kill from Radaisy Valdez win the match with a 25-22 set three victory.
