GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone defeated Indiana Tech for the third time this season, second time in straight sets, to earn a trip to the WHAC Tournament Championship tomorrow at 1 p.m. back inside Mol Arena vs. rival Aquinas. CU dominated from start to finish with 25-19, 25-15, 25-20 set victories as they are now 22-3 on the year. Tomorrow will be the Golden Eagles first appearance in the WHAC Tournament Championship since 2018 when they defeated Aquinas in five sets.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Indiana Tech - 0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-20)
- The Golden Eagles used an early 5-0 run that saw a kill and service ace from Olivia Keelean to get out to an 8-5 advantage.
- An attack error allowed Indiana Tech to tie things at 9-9.
- Cornerstone later used a 4-0 run capped off by a Bailey Cummings service ace to get on top 16-11 and force an IIT timeout.
- CU would not relinquish the lead the remainder of the set, as an Alexis Angus kill gave the Golden Eagles a 25-19 set one victory.
- Cornerstone scored the first four points of set two, highlighted by a Bailey Cummings and Alexis Angus block.
- Another 4-0 run behind a service ace from Patsy Morris increased the CU edge to 11-3.
- Later a 7-1 run would give the Golden Eagles their largest lead at 20-9. Brooke Nicholson later recorded a kill to win the set 25-15.
- An early 10-1 run in set three put CU in front 12-4. Jackie Stanko had three kills in the run.
- Alexis Angus recorded a huge solo block later in the set to make it 20-11 Golden Eagles.
- Indiana Tech scored eight of the last 11 points, but it was not enough as an attack error ended set three in favor of Cornerstone 25-20, giving the Golden Eagles the sweep.
