GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Committee released the 2020-21 baseball and softball Academic All-District honorees last week, and Cornerstone baseball sophomore
Jordan Wenzel earned the honor. Wenzel boasted a 3.90 GPA as a Business Management major to earn the honor for the first time in his career.
Wenzel has been one of the most prominent baseball players in program history in his early career and is following that up with his work in the classroom. On the field, Wenzel has started all 58 games since coming to CU from Hudsonville High School as the team's center fielder. He reached base in his first 53 games, and only has eight career games without a hit. Wenzel is a career .387 hitter and has led the team in hits, runs, stolen bases, and triples this past season. Wenzel's success on the field led him to Second Team All-WHAC honors in the 2021 season.
The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Baseball and Softball Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes baseball and softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late July.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed at the links above and are divided into geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CoSIDA Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
