Box Score SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Winning the first set was not enough for the Golden Eagles (3-2) as they lost their first away match of the season 3-1 to Spring Arbor (3-2). Coming off a three-match win-streak to finish the AQ/CU Classic, Cornerstone was able to take the first set 25-18 behind an array of kills, blocks, and SAU service errors.

However, Spring Arbor bounced back by winning the next three sets behind a consistent offensive attack and timely aces. They also went on multiple 3 to 4 point runs that helped them defeat Cornerstone for the first time since 2001.

Cornerstone – 1 Spring Arbor - 3 (25-18, 22-25, 20-25, 17-25)
  • Cornerstone started slow, but clawed their way back into the first set before going on a 6-0 run to take 17-12 lead. A couple of kills for the Golden Eagles and four SAU errors were critical in that 6-0 run.
  • In the second set, SAU started to pull away with a 4-0 run to go up 18-15, but Cornerstone had a run of their own later in the set to tie it up 22-22.
  • The Cougars responded with three straight kills to win the second set.
  • SAU started the third set well, going up 13-6, but, again, CU closed the gap and came within two points on an Olivia Keelean kill to make the score 13-15.
  • SAU and CU exchanged 3-0 runs before the Cougars pulled away to win the third set 25-20.
  • For the third straight set, SAU off to a strong start, going up 13-5 on an Alison Ford kill.
  • Cornerstone would not go down easy and went on a 5-0 run and a pair of 2-0 runs to tie the set at 16 on a kill by Kathryn Detweiler.
  • Spring Arbor was able to finish the set with 7 kills combined in a 4-0 run and 5-0 run to win the set 25-17, effectively winning the match 3-1.
