Pair of second half goals result in 1-1 tie for Women’s Soccer vs. Huntington

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  –  After neither team could find the net in the first half, Huntington and Cornerstone traded goals in the 66th and 68thminutes, resulting in a 1-1 tie for the Golden Eagles after two overtimes. Mackenzie Kramer was the goal scorer for CU, recording the first in her career, as Cornerstone moves to 1-0-1 in the early season. CU will be back in action on Wednesday as they continue a six-game season opening home stand vs. Olivet Nazarene at 6 p.m. 
 
What you need to know?
  • Cornerstone had three shots in the first 20 minutes, but all three were wide and high keeping the game scoreless. 
  • Julie Gouilliiart saw a great chance in the 37th minute, but the Huntington keeper Ireland Aerni was solid all game keeping the match scoreless. 
  • Cornerstone outshot Huntington 11-3 in the first half but it remained scoreless. 
  • The Golden Eagles dominated the early second half action, but the Foresters found the net first on a counter attack, as Reagan Sanderson hit a left footed strike over keeper Hope Steenwyk from just outside the 18-yard box for the first goal of the game. 
  • Julie Gouilliart had a great strike in the 68th minute that was once again saved by the HU keeper. Kramer did an excellent job following the ball up though, scoring on the rebound two minutes later to tie the game at 1-1. 
  • Kylie Adams had a break away in the 87th minute, but a tough bounce on the grass resulted in a weak shot that was once again saved by Huntington. 
  • CU went to overtime for the first time this year. 
  • Huntington outshot Cornerstone 3-0 in the first overtime, but Hope Steenwyk made a great save to keep the game tied. 
  • The second overtime was dominated by the Golden Eagles with six shots, but none found the net as the game ended in a 1-1 tie. 
By the Numbers
34 – Cornerstone tied last season's high for shots with 34. CU has not had more than 34 shots since 2017 vs. Grace Bible College. 
8 – Huntington made eight second half saves. 
11-1 – Cornerstone recorded 11 corner kicks to the Foresters one.

CU is back in action at home on Wednesday as they take on Olivet Nazarene at 6 p.m.
