Women’s Volleyball returns home for another four-match invitational

9/9/2021 1:37:00 PM

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles will return home for the first time since August 21, competing in yet another CU/AQ Crossover on September 10-11. The tournament will have Cornerstone taking on Rochester and IU-South Bend on Friday, and St. Thomas and (24) IU-Kokomo on Saturday for the second time this season. For all live links and information about the crossover, visit the TOURNAMENT PAGE.

Tournament Outlook
The Cornerstone and Aquinas Invite will be structured very similarly to the first crossover tournament that took place on August 20-21. The biggest change, will be Aquinas will be taking on their opponents at their home court rather than in the Golden Eagle Auxiliary Gym. Three matches will take place each day as Cornerstone will take on Rochester and IU-South Bend at 3 p.m. & 5 p.m. on Friday and St. Thomas and (24) IU-Kokomo at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday. Mol Arena will have two neutral site games take place on the floor, as Rochester will play IU-South Bend on Friday night at 7 p.m. and St. Thomas will play IU-South Bend on Saturday at 11 a.m. Game times are subject to change, dependent on the length of the game before them. Each team will be given 45 minutes to warmup at the conclusion of the previous contest.

A Look Back
The young Golden Eagles have hit a bit of a roadblock in the early season, suffering five straight losses for the first time since 2019 after playing two ranked teams in their last five matches. Cu continues to look to solidify a rotation with their seven freshmen, while also dealing with the injury bug over the last few weeks. Despite just playing nine games this year, Cornerstone has done well at home, earning all three wins in Mol Arena and posting a 3-1 record.

500 and 100
Junior Olivia Keelean is just one kill away from 100, as she looks to become the first Golden Eagle to achieve that mark this season. 99 kills this season puts her just five away from 500 in her career. Keelean is the closest to the 1000 career kill mark of anyone on the team.

Non-Conference vs. Rochester
Cornerstone will take on 6-5 Rochester to open this weekend's invitational a team that competes in the WHAC. The match between the two sides will count as a non-conference contest and the two teams will meet twice later this season for the countable WHAC matches.

IU-Kokomo Round Two
Cornerstone will take on (24) IU-Kokomo for the second time this season, and this will be the first team they have played twice this year. This also will be the only non-conference opponent that Cornerstone will see more than one time. Last time out on September 4, CU lost in four sets to the Cougars, 21-25, 21-25, 25-19, 15-25.
