ADRIAN, Mich. – Cornerstone took on Siena Heights for their first road WHAC match this season. The Saints came out on top, defeating the Golden Eagles in straight sets 3-0. CU had a tough day of offense, hitting just .092% and being held to single-digit kills in two out of three sets.
David Galanes was the only Golden Eagle to reach double-digit kills with ten. That loss drops Cornerstone to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in the WHAC.
Cornerstone – 0 | Siena Heights – 3 (25-18, 25-20, 25-22)
- Cade Meza got the offense going for CU with an early kill as CU cut the SHU lead to 3-2.
- Cornerstone relied on some SHU service and attacking errors in the first set despite having their highest kill output in a set during the match.
- Siena Heights took the last two points to take the first set 25-18.
- Cornerstone got off to a quick start in the second set, taking the first three points, highlighted by a Brunno Peres kill.
- With CU up 9-6, SHU took the next three points to tie up the set, but David Galanes recorded back-to-back kills to put CU up 11-9.
- Up 11-10, Cornerstone went on another 3-0 run to take a 14-10 lead.
- The Golden Eagles held a 16-13 lead just before the Saints went on a 10-2 run to take a 23-18 lead late in the second set before eventually winning the set 25-20.
- There were a couple 3-0 runs by each team in the third set, with CU kicking that off with to take an early 7-6 lead.
- SHU went on a 6-1 run to take 14-10 lead, with CU's point coming from a Max Hernandez kill off of a Patrick Voloch assist.
- Both teams went back-and-forth for the remainder of the third set. David Galanes registered a couple kills before Siena Heights took the final set 25-22 to win the match in straight sets.

The Golden Eagles are back in action for a pair of matches this Friday, January 28 in Sylvania, Ohio. Cornerstone will take on #5 Lourdes in their 1 p.m. match, followed by a tilt with Rio Grande (Ohio) at 4 p.m.
