Women's Basketball Drops Home Contest to Siena Heights

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Despite being only down three at halftime, Cornerstone was not able to keep it close as they fell to Siena Heights 69-55. Olivia Kubik led the Golden Eagles with 20 points, but CU could not contain Sha'kiya Parker, who dropped 30 points for the Saints. That loss drops Cornerstone to 3-17 overall, 1-11 in the WHAC.
 
Game Flow:
  • Down 7-1, Cornerstone made back-to-back buckets with a Stephanie Ainsworth layup and an Olivia Kubik three within eight seconds of each other to cut the SHU lead to 7-6.
  • Siena Heights went on an 8-0 run before Emma Costen hit a pair of free throws to cut the SHU lead to 15-8.
  • Kaycee Sluiter hit two free throws at the end of the first quarter to help CU enter the first quarter only break down 15-10.
  • Down 20-12, CU went on a 9-0 run, capped by an Olivia Kubik jumper to take a 21-20 lead.
  • Down 26-23, Kaycee Sluiter was fouled on a layup and hit the free throw to tie the game with 1:08 left in the first half.
  • SHU would score a few more points to take a 29-26 lead into the half.
  • Sha'kiya Parker hit back-to-back threes to begin the second half, and Ellen Kresge responded with a three of her own to cut the SHU lead to 25-29.
  • Neither team scored for the next three minutes, but that was the spark SHU needed to pull away in this game.
  • Many free throws and threes led to the Saints taking a 54-37 lead into the final break.
  • Stephanie Ainsworth scored six straight Golden Eagle points as she helped cut the SHU lead to 58-43 with 8:19 to play in the game.
  • Cornerstone would not be able to comeback in this one as Siena Heights took the win 69-55.

By the numbers:
36/13 – Cornerstone scored 36 bench points compared to 14 for Siena Heights.
20/14 – SHU had 20 points off of turnovers while CU had 14.
20 – Olivia Kubik led the Golden Eagles with 20 points.
