LIVONIA, Mich. – Cornerstone scored the first basket of the game, but it was all Madonna after that as CU fell 72-50 against their WHAC foe.
Maddison Fulks led the Golden Eagles with nine points, while
Parrish Hudson added eight points of her own. That loss moves Cornerstone to 3-18 overall, 1-12 in the WHAC.
Game Flow:
- Emma Costen got the scoring started early for the Golden Eagles as they took an early 2-0 lead.
- Madonna then went on an 11-0 run that was broken up by a Kelsey Richards free throw. Madonna would then score another bucket to take a 13-3 lead with 4:13 to play in the first quarter.
- CU went on a short run to cut the Madonna lead to 13-9 with 2:42 to play in the first.
- The Crusaders would score the last five points of the quarter to take an 18-9 lead into the first break.
- CU scored the first five points of the second quarter, capped by an Emma Costen free throw.
- The second quarter saw Madonna take a more commanding lead, as they outscore the Golden Eagles 23-14 to take a commanding 41-23 lead into the halftime break.
- Madonna scored the first nine points of the third quarter before Stephanie Ainsworth was able to break it up with a free throw. The Crusaders held a 50-24 lead with 4:27 to play in the third quarter.
- Then, Cornerstone went on a 12-2 run, led by a Maddison Fulks three and capped by a pair of Keeli Lindstrom free throws to cut the Crusader lead to 52-35.
- Madonna would hit a pair of free throws which finished off the third quarter, giving the Crusaders a 54-35 lead heading into the final break.
- Skylar Scholten got the fourth quarter scoring going with a jumper to cut the MU lead to 54-37.
- Cornerstone would go on to score 13 more points in the quarter, led by six Parrish Hudson points, before eventually falling to Madonna 72-50.
By the numbers:
38/12 – Cornerstone's bench scored 38 points for the Golden Eagles compared to 12 points for the starters.
34/8 – Madonna dominated in the paint, registering 34 points to Cornerstone's eight.
