Women's Soccer falls on the road to Madonna after late second half goals

LIVONIA, Mich. – It was a defensive battle to start out the game for the Golden Eagles, but two second half goals for the crusaders were the difference makers. A goal off a corner kick in the 60th minute and a penalty kick goal in the 75th minute proved to be all that Madonna needed. Cornerstone moves to 5-8-2 (2-6-1) on the season and will return home to face off against Rochester on Wednesday, October 26.

Game Highlights
• Madonna came out the aggressor as in the 3rd minute the shot by Sydnie Voss was saved by Hope Steenwyk.
• After a foul in the box, Madonna had a penalty kick in the 17th minute by the shot by Abby Werthman missed wide.
• Cornerstone had their first opportunity in the 34th minute as the shot by Elizabeth Kollen was saved by the Crusader goalie.
• After a few corner kicks by the Crusaders in the 40th and 42nd minute, no real opportunity came about, and the game was tied at halftime 0-0 
• Like the first half, Madonna has kept possession and had a few corner kick opportunities in the 54th minute, but good defense by the Golden Eagles stopped any chance. 
• In the 60th minute, Madonna ended the scoreless tie as Abby Werthman scored the first goal of the game. 
• In the 68th minute, the shot by Alexandra Sherlock for Madonna hit the post and Cornerstone was able to hit the ball out of the box. 
• After a foul in the box, Madonna was awarded a penalty kick and this time they scored. The PK goal was scored by Karina Arnold in the 75th minute to make it 2-0.
• Madonna was able to close the game with strong defense to win 2-0.
