Hall of Famer Returns for his Third Decade
The legendary Head Coach Kim Elders enters his 30th season on Friday vs. (5) Indiana Wesleyan after a very special Fall where he was inducted into the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame (GRSHOF) class of 2022. Elders comes into his third decade with 732 wins, the most of any active coach at the four-year collegiate level within the state of Michigan and what is believed to be the second most wins in the state's history at an institution. He brings in a new look Golden Eagle team in 2022 that is very young with just one senior anticipating their graduation this spring in Carter Nyp

Replacing Assist King
Cornerstone will have a new look for the first time in five years as standout All-American point guard Christian Rodriguez has now graduated and is playing overseas in Germany. CU will now rely on the veteran guards Eli Steffen and Trent Summerfield to fill that role as they head into the 2022-23 season.

New Faces
Cornerstone has four new faces on the 2022-23 roster in two sophomores and two freshmen. Blake Stewart and Luke Vanderwerff are the sophomores coming up from the junior varsity program this season. The two freshmen are Lewis Jones and Tre Seydel. Neither of the freshmen come locally as Jones is from Fort Wayne, Indiana and Seydel comes all the way from Raymond, Washington.

History in the WHAC/CL Classic
Cornerstone has competed in the WHAC/Crossroads League Classic for many years now where they face Indiana Wesleyan and Spring Arbor to open the season. Last year, CU came out of the event 2-0 with a huge win against ranked IWU and a win against Spring Arbor, both by under 10 points. The three years prior to 2021-22, CU went 1-1 in the event with wins over Spring Arbor and losses to Indiana Wesleyan each time. In the last 10 meetings, Cornerstone is 3-7 against IWU and 7-3 against Spring Arbor.

Scouting IWU
Indiana Wesleyan comes into the year ranked in the top five yet again to open the year as the fifth ranked team in the country. A season ago, IWU went 28-7 falling to William Jessup in the round of 16. The Wildcats are a veteran team led by 7-0 fifth-year senior Seth Maxwell and senior Spencer Piercefield.

Scouting Spring Arbor
The Cougars just four years from the NAIA DII National Title finished 7-21 overall in the 2021-22 season with a 1-17 Crossroads League record. In 2022-23, SAU comes in with an incredibly young roster with just two juniors and one senior. Eli White returns at the guard position as the team's leading scorer a year ago as a freshman at 14.2 PPG.
