GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – With joy from point one to the very end, Cornerstone completed the feat of the longest win streak in program history with their 26
th in a row after a road four-set victory against Rochester. CU took the match 25-8, 25-16, 22-25, 25-12, and saw multiple players get in the game to put them at 26-3, 17-0 WHAC on the year. Cornerstone now looks to secure at least a share of the WHAC Title on Friday at Madonna for a 7 p.m. match.
Game Recap: #21 Cornerstone – 3 Rochester - 1 (25-8, 25-16, 22-25, 25-12)
- Cornerstone started strong with an early 5-0 run that saw two blocks with Kylie Barron involved in to go on top 7-2.
- Patsy Morris recorded two more service aces in part of a 7-0 run to go on top 14-4.
- Cornerstone cruised all throughout set one, with the service line being big for a 25-8 set one victory. The team hit a match high .385 in set one.
- Kylie Andras saw action in set two and recorded back-to-back service aces to go on top 9-4.
- Later a 7-0 run on the Rylie Walters serve gave CU complete command at 16-5. CU saw more big blocks as Hannah Giere, Aubrey Lenz, and Kaylee Dykema were all involved in blocks.
- Rochester responded in set two to score 16 total points, but Rylie Walters used a service ace to take set two 25-16.
- Cornerstone started to use more and more subs in set three as all healthy players saw the floor.
- An Olivia Keelean service ace put Cornerstone on top 6-3 in set three early.
- Cornerstone led 18-13, but Rochester responded late with a. 10-1 run on the Golden Eagle subs. They took set three 25-22 on a Hannah Farnsworth kill.
- CU went back to the well of starters in set four and saw a 6-0 early run with two Regan Vaughn service aces.
- Olivia Keelean capped off the dominant fourth set with a kill to take it 25-12 and win the match in four sets.
By the Numbers:
17 – Cornerstone recorded 17 service aces the most since 2016 vs. Great Lakes Christian where they recorded 19.
-.007 – Cornerstone held Rochester to a negative hitting percentage on the match.
13 – Cornerstone totaled 13 blocks today, led by five from
Kaylee Dykema.
