DEARBORN, Mich. – The Golden Eagles saw some second half heroics on as a pair of freshmen in
Calvin Curtis and
Tyler Corstange scored to put CU in front and earn a 3-1 WHAC road victory at UM-Dearborn. Three of the four goals in the match were scored in the second half as UM-Dearborn found a quick equalizer after Cornerstone scored early to lead 1-0 at the half. The win puts Cornerstone at 5-2-4 on the year and 2-1-1 in WHAC play. CU will face their toughest conference test yet on Saturday as they travel to (22) Indiana Tech for a 1 p.m. matchup.
The Highlights:
- Cornerstone got off to a fast start offensively as Christian Galloway and Mitchell Strawser each recorded a shot in the first 10 minutes that went wide and was blocked.
- A yellow card was given at the 18-minute mark to UMD's Matthew Sommner.
- In the 22nd minute, Christian Galloway found the net for the first goal of the game off the pass from freshman Calvin Curtis to make it 1-0.
- A total of six shots were taken in the first half with Cornerstone having four and UM-Dearborn having two as the Golden Eagles led 1-0.
- In the second half, it did not take long for the Wolverines to find an equalizer as Jaber Hassan scored in the 51st minute, five minutes after he had a shot that was saved by Ethan Pike.
- Calvin Curtis scored the game winning goal in the 69th minute off no assist to put the Golden Eagles up 2-1.
- CU put their best foot forward in stopping the surge of the Wolverines looking to tie it yet again. In the 72nd minute, Grant Hassenrik received a yellow card, and it was later followed by a yellow given to Braeden Stewart.
- UM-Dearborn ended up having the crucial yellow though inside the box giving Cornerstone a PK to get a two-goal lead. Tyler Corstange took the PK and found the net for his seventh goal of his freshman season.
- The CU defense held strong in the final minutes as they came away with a 3-1 road victory on Wednesday evening.
