FORT WAYNE, Ind. – After stunning the Warriors on their home turf with a goal in the fourth minute, Indiana Tech used a strong second half to respond and earn a 2-1 victory over the Golden Eagles.
Christian Galloway scored for the Golden Eagles while
Ethan Pike recorded a season second best in saves with 10. CU is now 5-3-4, 2-2-1 WHAC as they will host a pair of games next week, starting with rival Aquinas on Wednesday evening.
The Highlights:
- Physicality was the name of the game from the opening whistle as Calvin Curtis had to come off just four minutes in after getting a cut in his head.
- While Curtis was being treated, Caleb Griffith took a free kick that was put away by Christian Galloway as he got free inside the box to put Cornerstone up 1-0 in the fourth minute. The assist went to Boston Knapp after heading the initial pass into the box.
- Cody Bennett was called for two tough fouls outside the box allowing two Indiana Tech free kicks. CU did a great job defending each Warrior opportunity to keep their 1-0 lead.
- Throughout the middle of the first half, Indiana Tech saw multiple offensive opportunities. The Golden Eagle defense bent but did not break as Cody Bennett, Caleb Griffith, and Ethan Pike all made outstanding plays to keep the ball out of their net.
- Cornerstone took the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
- To start the second half, Indiana Tech saw a header shot from Jaime Rodriguez that went just wide in the 49th minute.
- A few minutes later the Warriors saw a back post chance that they were able to convert as Lucca Motta found the net to tie the game 1-1.
- 15 minutes into the second half, Ethan Pike made an outstanding save on a drive inside the box to secure a ball and keep the game tied.
- Indiana Tech later saw back-to-back corner kicks that CU again defended well clearing the danger to keep the score notched at one.
- Boston Knapp saw a great scoring chance with 15 to play but a foul was called prior to him netting the ball that again kept the game tied.
- Indiana Tech continued to dominate possession in the second half, and they were finally able to find the net in the 84th minute on a loose ball in the box. Douglass Appiah from his back inside the box was able to make contact with the ball and score to put them on top for the first time, 2-1.
- Cornerstone had no answer in the final minutes, falling 2-1 in Fort Wayne.
