GRAND RAPIDS, Mich – The Golden Eagles cruised to a victory after a slow start, finishing with a 91-70 victory over Lourdes.
Kennedy Helderop had a career night scoring 26 points as Mackenzie Stein followed with her season high of 18 (8-10 from the free-throw line). Cornerstone is now 4-4 on the season and 4-0 in the WHAC as they head into Tuesday nights matchup against Concordia looking to make it five straight.
Game Highlights:
- It was a slow start for the Golden Eagles when Kennedy Helderop put the first two points on the board to tie the game. Following that, Emma Costen followed with two more points to get the momentum started for the team.
- With a three-minute scoring drought, Lourdes led the game when Olivia Kubik drained a three, the first of many, to bring the score to 11-7 halfway through the first quarter.
- The Golden Eagles use a 10-5 run to take their first lead of the game, 17-16, as Olivia Kubik and Jaylee Long hit back-to-back threes.
- Lourdes put the pressure on with a tight full court press, but Cornerstone was able to break it resulting in a 12-4 run for the Golden Eagles to put them up 29-20 at the end of the first quarter.
- In the second quarter, the Golden Eagles started to pull away after seeing efficient ball movement and forcing 15 total turnovers in the first half for the Gray Wolves. Kennedy Helderop got her fourth steal of the night to extend Cornerstone's lead.
- Tough defense from Mackenzie Stein resulted in a steal and an easy layup to end the two-minute scoring drought for the Golden Eagles making it 46-29 with 4:27 remaining in the second quarter.
- Another quick 5-0 run from Cornerstone extended their lead 51-29 as Kennedy Helderop continued to dominate the game with another three-pointer followed by a pull-up jumper from Olivia Kubik.
- Going into halftime, a buzzer beater from Maddison Fulks capped off the first half to put Cornerstone up 51-29.
- Lourdes opened the third quarter with a 9-3 run in hopes of closing the gap making it 62-44 but Cornerstone kept the lead with 6:40 remaining in the quarter. A pull-up jumper from Mackenzie Stein ended the five-minute scoring drought and brought back the energy for the Golden Eagles.
- Closing out the third quarter, Cornerstone went on a 7-2 run to increase the lead back to 20, 77-57.
- Starting out the fourth quarter strong, Jaxi Long hit a big three pointer with eight-minutes remaining. Lourdes answered with a 9-2 run in an attempt to cut the lead down 84-66 with four minutes remaining.
- Kennedy Helderop drained her fourth three pointer of the game to bring the score to 89-68 as she continued to build on a new career high of 26 points.
- The Golden Eagles closed out the fourth quarter strong, finishing the game 91-70.

Kennedy Helderop led the team with 26 points, followed by Mackenzie Stein with 18, and
Olivia Kubik with 12.
In the third quarter, CU held the largest lead with 27 points.
