Last Week Recap - Big Win & Snow Out
The Golden Eagles had a unique week as they prepared for two tough WHAC opponents at home for the first time in 2022-23. CU opened the week with a massive 94-92 win over Madonna, then followed that with a last minute snow out vs. Lourdes. The game vs. Lourdes will be rescheduled inside Mol Arena sometime later this year with that date still yet to be determined. Cornerstone is now 5-1, 3-0 WHAC as they will host Concordia and IU-South Bend this week.
Assist KINGS
After losing the program's all-time assist leader a year ago, Cornerstone has not skipped a beat in moving the ball ranking third in the NAIA with 22.2 assists per game. Assists are coming from a multitude of players as
Eli Steffen leads the way with 6.3 a game, behind a career high 11 vs. Madonna.
Trent Summerfield and
Carter Nyp also average above 3.5 assists per game, while
Cory Ainsworth sits at 2.2 per game.
Carter Nyp Career High
After winning his first career WHAC Player of the Week a week ago,
Carter Nyp continued to dominate on the offensive end in the big win over Madonna with a career high 37 points. He scored 10 of the last 12 in the game to help CU hold on in the home opener vs. the Crusaders.
Dominance at Home
Head Coach
Kim Elders is one of the best in home contests as he holds a 274-51 record in Mol Arena. In home openers, he is a dominant in home openers as well as he is 25-5 in those games. Coach Elders has been great in WHAC Openers as well as he is 24-6 in those games.
Scouting Concordia
The Cardinals have gone 3-4, 3-1 WHAC with wins this last week over UNOH and UM-Dearborn. The only conference loss for Concordia came at Rochester, 67-55. CUAA is incredibly young with seven freshmen, two of those being redshirts. Despite only scoring 66.3 points per game the offense has been very balanced with four players scoring 8.0 PPG. In the last 10 meetings between Cornerstone and Concordia, CU has gone 9-1.
Scouting IUSB
Cornerstone and IU-South Bend have not met since 2002. IU-South Bend was ranked in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 in 2022-23 but have had a rough go in the start of the season going 3-3. The Titans worst loss came vs. Saint Xavier on November 16 as they fell 104-55. IUSB has been very inconsistent on the offensive end as they have scored 85 or more in their wins and in the 70s or less in all their losses. Guard Donyell Meredith II leads the Titan offense with 16.7 PPG.
