Last second three does not fall as Women’s Basketball falls 67-64 vs. Lawrence Tech

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –  On Valentine's Day the Golden Eagles fall in heartbreaking fashion at home, 67-64 as they were unable to hit the last second shot to force overtime. CU held a 10-point lead at the half but was unable to hold on as they drop to 5-21, 3-15 WHAC on the year. Cornerstone has been eliminated from post season play as they will have two games remaining at home, starting with Madonna on Wednesday, February 16 at 5:30 p.m.

  • A three from LTU's Maggie Long gave them a five-point lead with 2:43 to play in the first quarter at 14-9.
  • Cornerstone ended the quarter on an 8-0 run, highlighted by a Kennedy Helderop and-one and an Olivia Kubik three to lead 17-14.
  • Kennedy Helderop was a menace on the defensive end, recording a steal and an easy layup to start the second quarter, making it 19-14.

  • Both teams shot above 50% in the first half.
  • The Blue Devils started to implement some pressure in the third and forced CU to turn the ball over as they chipped away at the Golden Eagle lead. Kendall Fisher hit a layup that put LTU down three at 41-38 with 6:15 to go in the third.
  • Gracie Mitchell later hit a layup that but LTU back on top as they outscored Cornerstone by 11 in the third and led 48-47 with 10 to play.
  • Lawrence Tech maintained the lead for much of the fourth, but a Maddison Fulks three put CU back on top, 55-54.
  • Maddison Fulks was later fouled on a three and she hit all the free throws to make it 58-56 with 4:53 to play.
  • Free throws played a factor down the stretch as Lawrence Tech tied it at 62 with two free throws from Kylee Batey.
  • Olivia Kubik hit a layup to again put Cornerstone on top 64-62 but LTU had an immediate response with a layup of their own to tie the game at 64 with 1:18 left.
  • Off an excellent pass in the late shot clock, Jade Faris hit a layup with 23 seconds to go to put LTU on top 66-64.
