Men’s Volleyball fails to reach the mark against Goshen falling 3-0

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  – The Golden Eagles fall to 1-7 in the WHAC and 5-10 overall, as they lose in a tough match against the Goshen College Maple Leafs. After losing two matches in a row, the Golden Eagles look forward to their next game on Thursday against Olivet College, looking to get back to the winning they knew early in the season. The Golden Eagles look to come out on top of Olivet College, Thursday at 7 p.m. 
 
Game Recap – Goshen – 3 Cornerstone – 0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-16)
  • Cornerstone took an early lead in the first set with kills from David Galanes and Brunno Peres, putting the score at 2-1.
  • A run of six points put the Maple Leaves up 7-2 with the help of three service aces by Alexander Rabadzhiev.
  • Thanks to a couple attack errors by Goshen, the Golden Eagles were able to come within 2 points of the Maple Leaves 8-6.
  • A mix of service errors and a couple kills from David Galanes brought the Golden Eagles the closest they would come to the Maple Leaves, putting the set at 12-11 but unfortunately falling in the first set the 25-17.
  • Some errors by Goshen's Rabadzhiev helped put the Golden Eagles up 10-6 during the first half of the second set.
  • Multiple kills by David Galanes from Patrick Voloch helped to keep the Golden Eagles close to the Maple Leafs
  • Leafs late in the second set, putting the score 22-20 Goshen ahead.
  • A couple errors by Cornerstone in the last couple serves, unfortunately brought the set to a close.
  • Goshen College won the second set 25-20.
  • Disheartened by a rough second set, the Golden Eagles fell behind quickly in the third set, putting the set at a score of 6-1.
  • A trio of service aces by Max Hernandez brough the Golden Eagles the closest to Goshen as they would come in the third set, the score being 7-6.
  • Cornerstone struggled to hold on in late in the third set as David Galanes and Alexander Rabadzhiev traded multiple kills back and forth, the score at 19-14 Goshen.
  • An unfortunate error by Max Hernandez ended the game for the Golden Eagles as the Maple Leafs won the third and final set 25-16.
By the Numbers 
27 – Alexander Rabadzhiev for Goshen College had 27 total attempts with 18 kills, putting his hitting percentage at .519 on the night.
34 – Michael Wahl of the Maple Leaves had 34 total assists, leading either side for assisted kills.
30 – David Galanes led both teams with 30 total kill attempts with 11 kills, putting his hitting percentage at .333 against Goshen.
25 – Patrick Voloch assisted his fellow Golden Eagles many times, totaling at 25 assists, putting his total amount of assists up to 342 halfway through his first season at Cornerstone.
