GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –
David Galanes and
Brunno Peres were in double-digits with kills to lead the Golden Eagles past Olivet 3-0. Cornerstone looked strong through the first two sets, then had to fight their way back in the third set, staving off multiple sets, to eventually win the final set 29-27. This win moves the Golden Eagles to 6-10 overall.
Cornerstone – 3 | Olivet – 0 (25-22, 25-20, 29-27)
- Olivet got off to a hot start, going up 6-2, but CU responded with a 3-0 run of their own to pull within one following a Joshua Beaumont kill.
- Shortly after, the Golden Eagles won seven of eight points, highlighted by a pair of David Galanes kills.
- Brunno Peres recorded back-to-back kills for the Golden Eagles, the second of which started a 4-0 run for CU that led to a 22-13 lead over Olivet.
- The Comets then went on a 6-0 run to put a scare into CU.
- However, Cornerstone was able to fend off Olivet to take the first set 25-22 after a Comet service error.
- CU got off to a hot start in the second set, taking a 5-2 lead, highlighted by four straight CU kills.
- Each team exchanged points until Olivet went on a 5-0 run to pull within one of CU, 13-12.
- Cornerstone then took six of the next seven points, highlighted by a Patrick Voloch service ace, to take a 19-13 lead.
- Both teams went back-and-forth for the remainder of the set until Hubert Sliwinski ended it with a kill, finishing the set at 25-20.
- The third set was tight as Olivet's Deontay Thomas and Nicholas Gonzales did damage while David Galanes, Brunno Peres, and Jacob Brinks returned the favor with multiple kills.
- With Olivet up 24-22, CU took the next three points, highlighted by Patrick Voloch kill on a savvy dump over the net, to go up 25-24.
- The Comets took the next two points to take a 26-25 lead.
- After exchanging points, Cornerstone took three points in a row, capped by two Comet errors, to win the thrilling third set 29-27 and finish the sweep.

What's Next?
Cornerstone is back in action this Saturday, February 19 with two away games in Mount Vernon, Ohio for a tri-meet. The Golden Eagles will take on Mount Vernon Nazarene at 1 p.m., followed by Alderson Broaddus at 2:30 p.m.
