th career game, and
Carter Nyp's 1000
th career point in a dominant 87-67 win over Lourdes. Not only did
Carter Nyp become the 46
th Golden Eagle to hit 1000 career points he did so with a single game career high of 31 to lead CU to victory. Cornerstone will now enter the WHAC Tournament as the two seed. They will play Lawrence Tech on Wednesday, February 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the WHAC Tournament Quarterfinal.
What you need to know?
- The Golden Eagle defense suffocated Lourdes early, holding them without a field goal for just over six minutes as they got out to a 13-1 advantage. Carter Nyp, Jonny Strube, and Christian Rodriguez led CU to the early lead.
- A three from Jonny Strube and a and-one from Carter Nyp pushed the Cornerstone edge to 18 at 21-3 with 10:57 to play.
- Lourdes finally got their offense going with the three-point shooting of Brett Lauf, cutting the deficit to 30-18.
- Carter Nyp surpassed 1000 career points as part of an 11-0 run, but it was his three from the logo that forced LU into a timeout and had the crowd louder than it had been all day with CU on top 45-20.
- Jonny Strube hit a layup for CU's 52nd point of the day with 2:43 to play, but Lourdes ended the half on a 7-0 run as the score sat at 52-29 at halftime.
- Carter Nyp powered a 7-2 run for the Golden Eagles to start the second half, bringing the lead to 27.
- Jonny Strube got hot from three to help Cornerstone maintain a 25+ point lead for much of the second half.
- Lourdes used a trap defense to cut it as low as 16, but Cornerstone dominated all day long to earn an 87-67 senior day victory. Seniors Christian Rodriguez (26), Jonny Strube (19) and Blake Hildenbrand (1) combined for 46 of the teams 87 points on the day.
