Men's Basketball hosts Lawrence Tech for WHAC Tournament Quarterfinal

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Golden Eagles have won five straight contests to end the year and earned the two seed as they now get set for WHAC Tournament play hosting the seven seed Lawrence Tech on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Cornerstone comes into the post season at 21-9 overall. WHAC Tournament Info

Ticketing for the WHAC Tournament is different than the regular season. The first 75 students in attendance will be free as well as all Golden Eagle Club members. There will be no pass list per WHAC rules and ticket prices will be seven dollars for adults and five dollars for students. Coach Elders in WHAC Tournament Play

Head Coach Kim Elders has had one of the most successful careers in conference tournament play over his 29 years as he is 54-19 all-time in the WHAC Tournament with 10 conference tournament titles. In WHAC Tournament Quarterfinal games, Elders is 27-2 all-time with the only losses coming last year to Concordia and 2012 to Lourdes. 

WHAC Player of the Week

Christian Rodriguez won his second WHAC Player of the Week Award after a ridiculous scoring performance in a 3-0 week. Rodriguez averaged 33.3 PPG, 5.7 APG and scored a career high 40-points in the win over Madonna that led CU to the two seed. 

Carter Nyp Career High

Carter Nyp became the 46th CU player in program history to achieve 1000 career points behind a career high 31 point game against Lourdes in the season finale. 

WHAC Tournament Outlook 

Cornerstone is the two seed in the WHAC Tournament for the first time since the 2015-16 season and they will take on Lawrence Tech who is the seven seed. Indiana Tech won the WHAC Regular Season Title and is the one seed who will take on the eight seed UNOH. Madonna is the three seed and will take on the six seed Aquinas. Lastly, Lourdes will host Rochester in the four/five seed game. 

Scouting Lawrence Tech

Cornerstone and Lawrence Tech met eight days ago where the Golden Eagles earned home redemption with an 87-73 victory. The Blue Devils have ended the season on a rough stretch losing their last five games as they hold a 12-4, 9-11 WHAC record. Brandon Beavers is the Blue Devils leading scorer and is second in the WHAC in PPG at 20.4. Since the end of January, Beavers has only played in home contests though as he did not play last time out when they played Cornerstone. LTU is known for their three point shooting, scoring just under 10 threes per game at 9.8 to rank 12th in the NAIA. Despite the number of attempts, they shoot 33.3% from deep which ranks 123rd in the country.
