GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles got a much-needed win behind double-digit scoring performances from freshmen
Olivia Kubik and
Maddison Fulks, as they took down Northwestern Ohio on the road, 59-45. CU ends a 10-game skid and improves to 4-19, 2-13 WHAC on the year. CU will continue a busy week back at home, as they host UM-Dearborn on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
Game Flow:
- In her second collegiate start, freshman Olivia Kubik hit a three for the first points of the game at Northwester Ohio.
- Cornerstone then went on an 11-0 run, highlighted by eight straight points from Maddison Fulks to go on top 17-4.
- Stephanie Ainsworth hit the final layup of the first quarter to put CU on top 21-12 after one.
- UNOH started the second quarter on a 7-0 run to cut their deficit down to just two at 21-19.
- Kelsey Richards highlighted a 5-0 response with a three ball with 5:21 to play in the half.
- Maddison Fulks continued her strong offensive first half hitting another three in the final two minutes as Cornerstone led 31-27 at the break.
- The Racers Aleigh Richardson hit a layup that tied the game at 33 with 5:08 to play in the third quarter.
- Cornerstone responded with an 8-0 run, with five of those points coming from Olivia Kubik as the Golden Eagles went back on top 42-34.
- Maddison Fulks went 1-2 at the free throw line in the final seconds of the third to give Cornerstone a six-point edge with 10 minutes to play.
- Quickly in the fourth, UNOH was able to cut their deficit back to two points at 43-41.
- The Golden Eagle defense then locked in, outscoring UNOH 16-8 in the fourth quarter to earn a 59-45 victory. CU led by as many as 14 in the game and never relinquished the lead in the win.
By the numbers:
47.7% - Cornerstone shot a season high 47.7% from the field going 21-44.

Olivia Kubik led the team with 13 points and four assists on the day.
