GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –
Jolie Groeneveld ended the home opening double header with a bang, driving in three runs on a walk-off triple to beat (RV) Aquinas 4-3. All four CU runs in game two were scored in the seventh inning, completing the comeback. The Golden Eagles were able to end AQ's 15-game winning streak. In the earlier contest, Cornerstone fell 7-2 the Saints hit three home runs, with one of those being a grand slam. CU's 1-1 day moves them to 5-6 overall. Both games were considered non-conference, so they do not affect the WHAC standings.
Game One: (RV) Aquinas – 7 | Cornerstone – 2
- Aquinas got off to a quick start with a solo home run in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
- In the top of the second, Aquinas extended their lead in a big way with a grand slam, clearing the bases to a 5-0 lead.
- The Saints again struck with the long ball, as they had a solo shot in the top of the fourth. They added to their lead again, scoring on a wild pitch to take a 7-0 lead.
- Cornerstone continued to have quiet bats, going 1-2-3 in each of the first four innings.
- The Golden Eagles finally got on the board in the bottom of the seventh when doubles by Sydney Carr and Delaney Wilson drove in two runs.
- Cornerstone would not score again, leading to a 7-2 Aquinas win in game one of the double header.
Game Two: Cornerstone – 4 | (RV) Aquinas 3
- Aquinas scored first in game two, after single to left field drove in two runs to give the Saints an early 2-0 lead.
- CU continued to struggle at the plate, but Jocelyn Hernandez did get a hit in the second with a poke to right field.
- AQ scored again when a triple drove in a run to extend their lead to 3-0 in the top of the third.
- Cornerstone had only two hits in the next four innings, but were able to keep the Saints off the board heading into the bottom of the seventh.
- That is when the bats came alive for the Golden Eagles as they registered five hits in that half of the inning.
- Delaney Wilson got things started with a leadoff single. Then Jocelyn Hernandez added to her average with a single to left field, advancing Wilson to third.
- Moriah Sprague came to the plate and singled to center, loading the bases.
- Sydney Carr added the fourth single of the inning with a single to center field and driving in a run to cut the AQ lead to 4-1.
- Then, Jolie Groeneveld came to the plate and decided to end the game when she delivered a deep shot to left field. Groeneveld hit a walk-off triple, driving in three runs, to give Cornerstone a thrilling 4-3 victory.

What's Next?
The Golden Eagles head to Illinois to play a double header against Judson on Friday, March 18. The first game is slated to start at 3 p.m. with game two set to begin at approximately 5 p.m.
