WALESKA, Ga. – Cornerstone played another two games during their spring break road trip, finding success during a 1-1 day. In the opener, the Golden Eagles took on host Reinhardt, falling 3-0. In the next match, CU found more success, taking a 3-1 victory over Truett McConnell, led by graduate senior
Jacob Brinks who recorded 16 kills. After the day of action, Cornerstone moved their overall record to 8-16.
Game One Recap – Reinhardt (Ga.) – 3 | Cornerstone – 0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-22)
- Hubert Sliwinski earned the Golden Eagles first point on the first point of the game with a strong kill.
- CU kept it close early after a Brunno Peres kills evened up the set score at 5-5.
- Reinhardt responded with a 5-0 run to go up 10-5 early in the first set.
- Cornerstone struggled to come back from that early deficit despite strong swings from Max Hernandez and Joshua Beaumont as they fell 25-20 in the first.
- The second set started off similar to the first with back-and-forth play, led by three early David Galanes kills with Reinhardt holding an 11-9 advantage.
- Down two, David Galanes had another clutch kill to cut the RU lead to 20-19.
- Then, to end the second set Max Hernandez had two kills to keep CU close, but Reinhardt did just enough on the offensive side to take the second set 25-23.
- In set three, Hubert Sliwinski and Brunno Peres had solid kills to help Cornerstone take and early 5-4 lead.
- Down by one, Brunno Peres again had a strong kill to even up the set at 13-13.
- Tied at 15, the Golden Eagles went on a run. David Galanes had a massive kill, then Brunno Peres delivered back-to-back service aces to give CU an 18-15 lead.
- Then Hubert Sliwinski delivered a kill, giving Cornerstone a 21-19 lead late in the set.
- After that, Reinhardt would regain momentum, going on a 6-1 run to end the set 25-22, winning the match with a sweep.
Game Two Recap – Cornerstone – 3 | Truett McConnell (Ga.) – 1 (25-9, 23-25, 25-17, 25-18)
- Cornerstone got off to a hot start, getting three kills each from Jacob Brinks and Cade Meza en route to a 13-6 lead early in the first set.
- Jacob Brinks added another monster kill to give CU a 15-8 lead just a few points later.
- The Golden Eagles ended the first set on a 10-0 run, led by multiple Truett McConnell attacking errors and kills by Cade Meza and Brunno Peres, to win in dominant fashion 25-9.
- Truett McConnell was able to keep up with Cornerstone a lot more in second set, going up 7-6 earl.
- Cornerstone stayed grounded and reeled off four straight points, highlighted by a Jacob Brinks kill to go up 10-7.
- Cornerstone would amass a 17-14 lead before TMU rattled off a 4-0 run to reclaim the set lead 18-17.
- Truett McConnell would go on to take a 23-20 lead before a CU run evened things up at 23 apiece.
- TMU would win the next two points, capped by a service ace, to take the second set 25-23.
- The Golden Eagles started the third set strong, capitalizing on some strong Britt Parkinson serving, which included an ace, to take an early 6-2 lead.
- CU capitalized on strong veteran play after a Kairu Tuma'e ace and two Jacob Brinks kills out them up 12-5.
- Kills from Ethan Walker, David Rodriguez, Brunno Peres and Jacob Brinks all helped lead up to a Max Hernandez service ace that ended the set for CU 25-17.
- Lukas Kuiper got on the board early for Cornerstone in the fourth set with a kill to tie things up at 2-2.
- Ethan Walker and Jacob Brinks came up big in the fourth set for CU, helping pave the way for a strong middle of set that eventually gave CU a 23 15 lead.
- The Golden Eagles capitalized on two late service errors by TMU to take a 25-18 win in the fourth set.
