ADRIAN, Mich. – The Golden Eagles held a lead through five innings, but Madonna responded to score seven runs in the sixth through eighth innings to earn a 7-4 victory over Cornerstone, ending their season. CU fell first in Pod A of the WHAC Tournament and ends the season at 24-20 overall. The Golden Eagles end a historic season and will now hit the offseason to get ready for 2023.
Game One – Madonna – 7 Cornerstone – 4
- In an elimination game for both teams, Cornerstone got off to an outstanding start as the top of the lineup did their job in the bottom of the first. Jake Collins hit an RBI single and Austin Hurt hit an RBI triple to go on top 2-0.
- Starter Adam Hotovy was dominant through five innings, recording three 1-2-3 innings of work to hold the 2-0 lead.
- In the sixth, Madonna scored two runs to tie the game on two hits with a two RBI double being the highlight.
- In the bottom of the inning, Cornerstone took the lead right back with an RBI triple from Isaac Tayes and RBI single from JC Salinas, making it 4-2.
- Madonna scored a run in the top of the seventh, forcing Adam Hotovy out of the game after 6.1 innings of work. Andrew VanDyke was the first CU reliever out of the pen and the Crusaders found two more runs on a wild pitch and an error by Cornerstone. Madonna led 5-4 after seven innings.
- Madonna continued to get to the CU bullpen in the eighth adding two runs on an RBI single and a bases loaded walk for their largest lead of 7-4.
- CU had three, four, and five due up in the lineup in the bottom of the eighth, but Madonna struck out the side to keep the 7-4 lead.
- The Crusaders struck out seven of the last nine batters as Cornerstone had no response falling 7-4 to end their season.

0-4 – Cornerstone could not find a win against Madonna this season, going 0-4 on the season.

Cornerstone's historic season comes to an end. The team will hit the offseason and look to build on the year going into 2023.
