New Faces
Head Coach
Steve Herdsman and the Golden Eagles are excited to announce the addition of nine new additions to the roster, as
Tyler Corstange,
Calvin Curtis,
Roberto Gutierrez,
Grant Hassenrik,
Jake Madak,
Jason Michalek,
Tyler Novosad,
Mitchel Strawser, and
Ben Wolf. These faces look to revamp a roster that went 4-13-1 last season that led to an eighth-place finish in the WHAC and a quarterfinal loss to Indiana Tech.
Key Returners
The men bring back a good majority of their starters from the 2021 season, led by
Cody Bennett,
Christian Galloway,
Caleb Griffith,
Jeff Herrema, and
David Mawi.
Christian Galloway led the team in goals, assists, and points, earning him Second Team All-WHAC honors as he gets set to return for his final season. Galloway comes into 2022 looking to take an even bigger step up after the 2021 campaign was his first back after his cancer diagnosis in 2020. Galloway will be joined by many other young forwards as CU looks to improve upon their 22 goals scored from last season.
New Coaching Staff
Cornerstone has some of the same staff in new roles this season as
Steve Herdsman remains the Head Coach entering his fifth year, but will be joined by newly promoted Associate Head Coach
Bruce Pobocik. Pobocik was named an Associate Head Coach as he was given more responsibility headed into this year in recruiting and training. Dary DeWalt officially also joins the staff as the Goalkeepers Coach. DeWalt is a Cornerstone graduate who also played keeper for the Golden Eagles.
Breaking the Season Opener Drought
Cornerstone will host Spring Arbor for both the season and home opener on Wednesday. CU has not won a season opener since 2009 and looks to break that streak with a young new look roster. Spring Arbor has played a game already and fell 1-0 at Saint Xavier on Saturday, August 20.
