GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – It was a defensive battle in the season opener for the Golden Eagles as it ends in a 1-1 tie.Freshman did not play like freshman as Taya Andrzejewski, Shelten Cruces, Ainsley Harris, and Tori Woodwyk all had a shot tonight. CU is now 0-0-1 on the year. The Golden Eagles will come back home for their home opener as they host Olivet College on September 1 at 4:30 p.m.  
 
The Highlights:

• Senior Jozlyn VanTol had the first opportunity of the night with a shot that was blocked by the defender.
• Cornerstone has maintained possession throughout the majority of the first half.
• Amber Nicholson subs into the game and immediately makes an impact scoring the first goal of the year at the 28-minute mark.
• Saint Xavier maintains possession in the closing minutes of the first half but doesn't take advantage of their opportunities.
• Cornerstone heads into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
• Saint Xavier strikes early in the second half as Peyton Fox scores the first goal for the Cougars in the 52^nd minute.
• Saint Xavier took the possession early in the second half but cannot capitalize after their made goal after Hope Steenwyk saves two shots in a span of two minutes.
• Cornerstone took possession in the final 15 minutes as they were given a great opportunity to score but was saved by the Saint Xavier goalie.
• Cornerstone had one final good opportunity in the 87^th minute as the shot by Hannah Luurtsema sails high over the goal.
• Cornerstone tied 1-1 in their season opener.
