GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles had a home opener to remember as they scored four goals to power past the Comets of Olivet 4-0. The goals were scored by
Hannah Luurtsema,
Katelyn Lane,
Shelten Cruces, and
Chloe Dood in that order which were all their first of the season and of their career. Cornerstone has a quick turnaround as they travel to Olivet Nazarene on Saturday September 3 at 7 p.m. EST.
The Highlights:
- It was all Cornerstone possession to start the half.
- The Golden Eagles had early opportunities with corner kicks by Taya Andrzejewski and Tori Woodwyk but were not able to capitalize on them.
- Cornerstone with the great opportunity after a foul in the 18-yard box that leads to the first goal of the season for Hannah Luurtsema in the 37th minute on a penalty kick.
- It was all Cornerstone in the first half as they out shot the Comets 14-1.
- Cornerstone heads into the half with the 1-0 lead.
- Olivet had an early chance in the 51st minute after shot on goal by Katelyn White hit the top of the crossbar, almost bouncing down and in.
- Cornerstone capitalizes on another Olivet foul, that led to a free kick by Chloe Dood which resulted in a goal headed in by Katelyn Lane in the 60th minute.
- In the 66th minute, Cornerstone with another penalty kick by Hannah Luurtsema that was saved by the goalie but bounced back far enough that a shot by Shelten Cruces sneaks right past the Comet goalie for her first career goal.
- Cornerstone strikes right away again in the 67th minute as Chloe Dood sees the goalie sleeping and hits a free kick right into the net.
- Just like the first half, it was all Cornerstone in the second half as they maintained possession.
- Cornerstone wins the match 4-0 against Olivet College.
