BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Golden Eagles drop their first game of the season as the second half goals by Olivet Nazarene proves to be the difference makers in the game, 3-1.
Chloe Dood scores her second goal of the season in the loss. Cornerstone returns home on September 7 to host Trinity International at 4 p.m. EST.
The Highlights:
- Olivet Nazarene came out aggressive from the start with a one-on-one opportunity in the 3rd minute by Kaylee Evers but Hope Steenwyk had a brilliant save.
- Cornerstone had a good opportunity with back-to-back corner kicks by Tori Woodwyk and Chloe Dood in the 6th minute but did not capitalize.
- Olivet Nazarene had been the aggressor to the start of the game, another shot by Kaylee Evers in the 21st minute was saved again by Hope Steenwyk, diminishing any chance for ONU to score.
- Olivet Nazarene capitalized on a beautiful pass from midfield by Sara Loichinger that assisted the goal for Melea Miller in the 29th minute, giving ONU the 1-0 lead.
- In the 33rd minute, Ainsley Harris had a great opportunity with a shot on goal that just missed left.
- Melea Miller was looking to add another goal, but her shot was saved in the 36th minute by Hope Steenwyk who has been busy early.
- In the 44th minute, Cornerstone capitalized off a foul right outside the 18-yard box. A beautiful pass by Katelyn Lane leads to a headed in goal by Chloe Dood, tying it 1-1.
- Cornerstone and Olivet Nazarene head into halftime tied at 1.
- Just like the beginning of the first half, 45 seconds into the second half and Olivet Nazarene with another shot on goal that was saved by Hope Steenwyk.
- Olivet Nazarene continued their aggressive pursuit to begin the second half as another shot missed high in the 58th minute, putting pressure on the Cornerstone defense.
- In the 61st minute, Melea Miller strikes again to score her second goal of the game. Giving ONU a 2-1 lead.
- It was all Olivet Nazarene in the second half, Melea Miller gets the hat trick in the 66th minute with a headed in goal. Olivet Nazarene now leads 3-1.
- It continued to be all Olivet Nazarene in the second half, winning 3-1.
