Women’s Volleyball lassoes a victory over Lourdes in Western Night

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – With country music blaring and the western themed fans rocking, Cornerstone needed just an hour and 12 minutes to down Lourdes in straight sets at home on Friday night. CU took the match 25-11, 25-18, 25-13 hitting a season second best .347 in the match to win their 11th straight contest and improve to 11-3, 2-0 WHAC as they 23rd ranked team in the NAIA. CU has a quick turnaround as they will host Siena Heights tomorrow at 1 p.m. to close out the WHAC weekend. 

Game Recap: #23 Cornerstone – 3 Lourdes – 0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-13) 
  • Cornerstone scored the first three points of the match on Rylie Walters serve, as Aubrey Lenz and Kaylee Dykema combined for a block and Walters recorded a kill. 
  • Patsy Morris later capped off a 6-2 run with a service ace to put CU up 11-5, as the Golden Eagles serve was devastating all night long, forcing Lourdes to scramble.
  • Rylie Walters on her second serve rotation led Cornerstone on a 6-0 run that saw two more aces. 
  • A pair of Gray Wolf attack errors led to Cornerstone taking set one, 25-11 their largest margin of the night. 
  • A 5-0 run came early in set two for Cornerstone as Kylie Barron and Kathryn Detweiler each recorded a kill and then followed that by combining for a block. 
  • Lourdes responded with a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to just one at 11-10. 
  • Cornerstone pulled away with a 6-0 run on the Olivia Keelean serve to go on top 23-15. Kathryn Detweiler had two kills in the run. 
  • Kaylee Dykema recorded the final kill to take set two 25-18.
  • Again, a service ace was key in set three, as Olivia Keelean recorded one that put CU in command, 11-5. 
  • The offense was on fire in set three as four different CU players recorded a kill over a six-point span to lead 16-7. 
  • Kathryn Detweiler sealed the match with a solo block to take set three 25-13 as the Golden Eagles defeated Lourdes in a quick hour and 12-minute match. 
 
By the Numbers:
2 – A pair of Golden Eagle middles hit above .500 as Kaylee Dykema (9 kills) and Kathryn Detweiler (6 kills) were unstoppable on offense. 
11 – Rylie Walters led the team with 11 kills on the match.
6-2 – Cornerstone won the service ace battle 6-2 with two of those from Aubrey Lenz and two from Rylie Walters
23 – Olivia Keelean had nine kills tonight, putting her 23 away from 1,000. 
11 – Cornerstone has won 11 straight matches to move to 11-3, 2-0 WHAC on the year. 
 
What's Next?
Cornerstone is back at home tomorrow as they continue WHAC play vs. Siena Heights at 1 p.m.
