Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  – The Golden Eagles took on a tough NCAA DIII foe in East Beltline rival Calvin University and a strong effort specifically in the second half resulted in two equalizers that gave CU a 2-2 road tie. Calvin scored in the 72nd minute, just a minute after Cornerstone found the tying goal, but a late PK again tied the match in the final minutes. The 3-0-3 Golden Eagles next match will be another tough one with a battle at NAIA top 25 opponent Bethel University on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The Highlights:
  • Calvin got off to a fast start recording two shots in the first three minutes that were both blocked away to keep things scoreless early.
  • The Knights continued to control possession as a shot from Christopher Shau in the 13th minute proved to be the most dangerous in the early going, going off the crossbar and out.
  • On the seventh Calvin shot of the day, Ethan Pike made his first save of the day in the 17th minute.
  • Mitchell Strawser recorded the first Cornerstone shot in the 18th minute that missed high.
  • The Knights persistence on net paid off in the 34th minute, netting their first goal in the lower left corner on a shot from Jacob Ryu to make it 1-0.
  • Cornerstone trailed Calvin 1-0 at the half.
  • Out of the half, Cornerstone started to garnish a flow as Mitchell Strawser and Jeff Herrema each recorded shots that challenged the Calvin defense.
  • Momentum continued to shift in the Golden Eagles favor as again Mitchell Strawser recorded a shot that was saved by Calvin keeper Daniel Wunder in the 65th minute.
  • Tyler Corstange on his first shot of the game, proved heroic tying the game with an upper 90 goal in the 71st minute.
  • Less than a minute later though, the Knights responded as Jacob Gooding scored to regain the lead 2-1.
  • Late in the game Cornerstone earned a PK for a chance to tie. A referee went down with an injury however, causing a long delay before the PK was taken.
  • Tyler Corstange scored the penalty in the 87th minute, tying the game at two after a nearly 15-minute delay due to referee injury.
  • That would end the dramatic game as Cornerstone and Calvin tied at two to put the Golden Eagles record at 3-0-3.
