SYLVANIA, Ohio – Cornerstone was shutout for the first time this season, falling at Lourdes on Saturday afternoon 2-0. The Gray Wolves scored a goal in each half to take the match 2-0 and drop the Golden Eagles to 3-3-1 on the year and 0-1 in WHAC play. The conference season continues on Wednesday for CU as they travel to Siena Heights for a 4:30 p.m. match against the Saints.
What you need to know?
- Amber Nicholson got the start for CU at forward and recorded the first shot for the Golden Eagles missing wide in the third minute.
- In the 12th minute Skylar Scholten recorded a shot that was saved by Lourdes keeper Emmy Rodger to keep the game scoreless.
- Lourdes saw some early chances as well and found the net in the 15th minute with a goal off the foot of Kayla Dillinger on a deflection from a corner kick.
- Cornerstone tried to find a response with two shots late in the first half, but they were unable to score as they trailed 1-0 at the half.
- It did not take long for the Gray Wolves to find an insurance goal, doing so in the 55h minute. Erin Caldwell fired one to the far post that beat keeper Hope Steenwyk to make it 2-0.
- Lourdes dominated possession in the second half taking control for much of the period.
- Cornerstone tried multiple substitutes down the stretch but could find nothing on offense, falling 2-0 at Lourdes.
