GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles returned home to face off against Trinity International and won by the score of 2-0. The goals were scored by
Mackenzie Kramer and
Amber Nicholson, but the defense was the highlight of the game as they didn't allow a single shot. Giving goalie
Hope Steenwyk her second shutout of the year. Cornerstone doesn't play until next week Wednesday, September 14, as they play Grace Christian right here on the campus of Cornerstone University at 7 p.m.
The Highlights:
• The first opportunity of the game came in the 16th minute where Cornerstone had a corner kick but was not able to take advantage of it.
• Cornerstone has been on the offensive to start the first half of the game but has not been able to capitalize on any opportunity yet.
• In the 28th minute,
Scotland Philip had a little breakaway space, and her shot was saved by the Trojan goalkeeper, Sarah Davis.
• Cornerstone strikes first in the 33rd minute when a shot by
Scotland Philip was saved by the Trojan goalie but hit back out far enough for
Mackenzie Kramer to score her first goal of the season off the rebound.
• It was all Cornerstone as they didn't allow Trinity International to attempt a shot in the first half.
• Cornerstone leads 1-0 heading into halftime.
• Cornerstone had a good opportunity in the 51st minute with a shot by
Tori Woodwyk that just sailed high.
• Cornerstone had a corner kick in the 66th minute that resulted in a goal by
Amber Nicholson, giving Cornerstone the 2-0 lead.
• Cornerstone was on the offensive all game, holding TIU to zero shots through the first 70 minutes.
• The Golden Eagles had another opportunity to add onto their lead in the 86th minute, but the shot by
Elayna Cady just missed high and left.
• Cornerstone finished the game not allowing a singled TIU shot, winning the game 2-0.
