WHAC Player of the Week
The Golden Eagles played a single match last week to conclude the first half of WHAC play and it was a great all-around game for CU as they swept UM-Dearborn at home. Sophomore
Hannah Giere earned her first ever WHAC Attacker of the Week award in the win, recording 10 kills and a career best .556 hitting percentage.
WHAC After Round One
After 10 games in WHAC play, the conference sees two teams at the top at 9-1 in Indiana Tech and Aquinas. Siena Heights and Madonna are tied for third at 7-3, and Cornerstone follows in fifth at 5-5 tied with UM-Dearborn. Concordia and Lawrence Tech round out the top eight at 4-6 in WHAC play. If the season were to end today those eight teams would be in the conference tournament.
Senior Day
On Saturday, Cornerstone will play Lourdes at 2 p.m. for Senior Day. The Golden Eagles will honor just one senior in 2023, as
Kylie Andras from Oxford, Michigan will graduate at the end of the year. Andras has seen more playing time each season and has capped off her career as CU's best server so far with 26 aces on the year.
Scouting Siena Heights
SHU has had a very up and down year, finding their rhythm of late. After going 0-3 in WHAC play to begin the year, SHU has won seven conference games in a row to sit tied for third overall. Last time out, the Saints played NCAA DIII Adrian and fell in four sets. Siena Heights strength is at the service line as they rank 29
th in the NAIA in aces with 151. Freshman Jessica Holsapple leads the team with 44 aces to rank ninth individually in the NAIA. SHU relies heavily on veteran leadership with five of their top seven kills leaders are seniors.
Scouting Lourdes
Lourdes upset CU for their first win of the season down in Ohio last time the two sides met, and Cornerstone looks for redemption at home on Senior Day. They Gray Wolves have struggled overall as they are just 2-13, 2-8 WHAC on the year. LU is very young this season and only has one player over 100 kills so far in Kylee McBride at 115.
