Women’s Soccer drops third straight 2-0 at Lawrence Tech

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.  – Two first half goals downed the Golden Eagles on Wednesday as they fell 2-0 to Lawrence Tech for their third straight WHAC loss. CU continues a gauntlet of games that have resulted in not being able to find the net in all three of the losses as they drop to 6-5-2, 2-4-2 WHAC on the year. Cornerstone will return home for their final home contest on Saturday, as it will be Senior Day for the 10 varsity seniors. 
 
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 0 Lawrence Tech - 2
First Half
  • Cornerstone saw three early chances from Scotland Phillip (two shots) and Kailey Dodge (one shot) but only one of the three would be on target. LTU keeper Gabi Nelson would make the save to keep the game scoreless. 
  • In the 15th minute, Lawrence Tech saw their first true opportunity and they capitalized. DiOnna Hill foiund the net and made it 1-0. 
  • After the goal it was all Lawrence Tech on the attack. Over the next 10 minutes the Blue Devils recorded six shots and two corner kicks. Morgan Scholten would make one save on the six shots. 
  • DiOnna Hill would find the net for the second time on the day in the 34th minute. This time it came from the foot of Hannah Pagett to make it 2-0. 
  • Cornerstone trailed 2-0 at the halftime intermission. 
Second Half
  • In the 52nd minute, Tori Woodwyk saw a great chance to try to get a goal back, but LTU made the save to keep Cornerstone scoreless. 
  • Tori Woodwyk would see another chance later that once again was saved. 
  • In the 72nd minute, LTU's Mikayla Waranauckas was given a yellow card, the first of the game. 
  • Scotland Phillip recorded the only other shot in the second half for the Golden Eagles as they fell 2-0 on the match. 
By the Numbers
2-2-1 – Cornerstone is now .500 on the year in true road contests at 2-2-1. 
3 – CU has been shutout in each of the last three contests. 
18-6 – Cornerstone was outshot 18-6 on the match. 
 
What's Next?
Senior Day is on the docket this Saturday vs. Madonna at 2 p.m. Cornerstone will honor 10 outstanding seniors on the day.
