Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Rochester - 1
First Half:
- Rochester saw the first true chance just under five minutes in, as Gadiel Herrera flicked a bouncing ball over keeper Roberto Gutierrez. The ball was in route to find the net, but Caleb Griffith came in to sweep the ball away giving the Warriors a corner.
- Calvin Curtis had a chance in the 12th minute, getting behind the final line of defence for Rochester. He tried to go near post and was tripped up in the attempt missing wide. No call was made as the score remained 0-0.
- Calvin Curtis continued to create havoc in the backline of Rochester with a nice pass to the top of the 18 that gave Jake Madak a shot. Madak's shot was blocked by the RU defense to keep things scoreless.
- In the 18th minute CU would find the score line. Liam McHugh sent a ball deep that Tyler Corstange was able to get his head on off one bounce for his seventh goal of the year.
- The first yellow card was handed out after much discussion by the referees in the 23rd minute. Nik Gjonaj was handed a card for the Warriors.
- Calvin Curtis for the third time was able to get behind the Rochester defense. He had a break away chance to score, but a late offsides flag stifled the chance keeping the score 1-0.
- A tough foul call inside the box would allow Rochester to catch a huge break and equalize the game in the 30th minute on a penalty kick. Nik Gjonaj would find the lower right corner to tie the game at one.
- It looked as if Cornerstone would retake the lead off a Pablo Rodriguez corner in the 33rd minute, but Rochester would just keep the ball from crossing the line even though the entire Golden Eagle starting 11 had thought they scored.
- The game continued to get chippy. Jake Madak was handed a yellow card in the 41st minute as the score stayed 1-1 into the half.
Second Half:
- The second half continued physical play as 10 fouls were called in the first 15 minutes of the period.
- The forward duo of Tyler Corstange and Calvin Curtis continued to create chances through the first 15 minutes as well each recording a shot.
- In the 68th minute, Pablo Rodriguez was clipped after missing a shot high inside the box earning a penalty kick. Tyler Corstange stepped to the line and hit a beautiful upper 90 shot to score his second goal of the game and eighth of the year, putting CU back on top 2-1.
- Just a few minutes later, Seth Campbell and Pablo Rodriguez combined for two beautiful passes to get the ball to Calvin Curtis for a third Golden Eagle goal to make it 3-1. Curtis tallied his fourth goal of the year.
- In the 80th minute more physical play resulted in a yellow card. Substitute Ajani Vaughn was handed a card after some pushing and shoving.
- As the rain continued to fall on the turf, Adrian Lopez chose to rip a deep shot. The ball caused Roberto Gutierrez some trouble, but he was able to make the save keeping the score at 3-1.
- In the 84th minute Rochester saw a huge miscue. The Warrior keeper came out to clear the ball hitting his own defender, creating a chance for Boston Knapp. Knapp nearly put it away, but a last second tackle kept the Golden Eagles from their fourth goal of the day.
- With just a few seconds remaining, Rochester would be given a second penalty kick. Roberto Gutierrez would make this save this time though to give the Golden Eagles a 3-1 victory.
