Men's Soccer sneaks into the WHAC Tournament with a 2-0 win over Concordia

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Golden Eagles finished the regular season on a high note with a 2-0 victory over Concordia. It was a different way than normal for the first goal of the game as Concordia let up an own goal late in the first half with Tyler Corstange adding one more of his own before halftime. With that victory, Cornerstone has now qualified for the WHAC Tournament as they will await to see who they play on Saturday, November 4.

First Half
  • The first shot of the match came in the eighth minute as the Concordia forwards shot sailed high.
  • Boston Knapp had the first opportunity of the match in the 11th minute for the Golden Eagles as his shot sailed wide left.
  • Cornerstone had a great opportunity in the 29th minute as a shot from Pablo Rodriguez was blocked by the Concordia defender that led to a shot from Liam McHugh that hit the post as the Cardinals escape a scary situation.
  • Tyler Corstange had an opportunity in the 36th minute but his shot was blocked that led to a corner kick. After the ball ricocheted around, the ball went off a Cardinal player and into the goal for an own goal to give Cornerstone a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute.
  • Right before halftime, Tyler Corstange finally found the back of the net off a pass from Steven Stidham to give Cornerstone a 2-0 lead.
 
Second Half
  • Cornerstone came out aggressive in the second half with shots by Steven Stidham and Jake Madak in the 47th minute that did not get past the goalie.
  • The Golden Eagles continue to be aggressive as shots from Pablo Rodriguez and Jake Madak in the 56th and 58th minute were saved by the Concordia goalie.
  • The Golden Eagles had a corner kick opportunity in the 74th minute but was negated by a foul on the play.
  • Concordia had a shot in the 86th minute but sailed high over the goal.
  • Cornerstone goes onto win 2-0 and sneak into the WHAC Tournament.
