GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles were clicking on all cylinders on Wednesday night, dominating Rochester from start to finish in a home sweep. The night was highlighted by Cornerstone's largest set victory of the season at 25-6 as they took the match 25-20, 25-6, 25-18. CU is now 13-14, 8-9 WHAC as they will play their final home game of the year on Friday vs. Madonna at 7 p.m.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Rochester – 0 (25-20, 25-6, 25-18)
Set One:
- After Hannah Giere scored the first point of the match on a kill, Rochester responded to lead 8-3, forcing an early Cornerstone timeout. The Warriors recorded two aces in the early run.
- After the timeout, Cornerstone battled their way back into the set. Attack errors helped CU, followed by a service ace from Emma Whitley that tied the set at nine.
- Hannah Giere would give CU their first lead with a kill at 11-10.
- A 3-0 Rochester run that saw kills from Darcy Bennin and Hailee Mancogna helped them regain the lead, 18-17.
- Cornerstone immediately responded with a 3-0 run that saw kills from Hannah Giere and Emmalee Murphy to go on top 20-18. Rochester would use their first timeout.
- The Golden Eagles continued the run after the timeout, as kills from Gabrielle VerBerkmoes, Eliza Thelen, and Hannah Giere helped them take set one 25-20.
Set Two:
- CU kept momentum going into set two. Kylie Barron and Eliza Thelen were each involved in two blocks to help Cornerstone score the first five points of the set.
- The offense then kicked in as well with Eliza Thelen, Emmalee Murphy, and Kylie Barron all recording kills to lead 9-1. Rochester would use their first timeout.
- Cornerstone continued to pour it on. Kylie Barron recorded a kill, bringing the score to 14-1.
- Rochester had no answer for the Golden Eagle offense in set two. Cornerstone cruised to their largest margin of victory in a set on the season at 25-6 while hitting .522 as a team.
Set Three:
- It was more of the same in set three with the Golden Eagles getting out to a big lead. A kill and service ace from Hannah Giere gave CU an early 5-1 advantage.
- Rochester responded with a 3-0 run to cut the deficit to one.
- Cornerstone then responded with an 8-2 run to lead 18-10. Hannah Giere continued to dominate, specifically at the service line, with another ace.
- CU would rotate in additional players, as Paige Schalow was one of the many who entered late in set three for some game action.
- Rochester would make a slight comeback in the set against the Cornerstone substitutes, but the Golden Eagles would still close it out, taking set three 25-18.
By the Numbers:
.330 – Cornerstone hit a season high .330 on the match as a team tonight.

Hannah Giere fell one short of her career high for kills, leading the team with 15.

Kylie Barron once again led the team with five blocks.

Cornerstone will play their final home game on Friday vs. Madonna at 7 p.m. CU will have a Bump, Set, Spike Epilepsy night where they will be selling T-Shirts to raise awareness and funds to support the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan
