Women's Basketball falls 78-66 to St. Francis to open their season

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Women's Basketball opened their season on the road against St. Francis and fell 78-66. It was a game of runs as both teams would go on runs where St. Francis would use that and keep a solid lead over the Golden Eagles. Cornerstone continued to chip away and got within one but St. Francis would never give up the lead to the Golden Eagles. Jaxi Long and Maddison Fulks led the way for the Golden Eagles scoring 15 apiece as Cornerstone will be right back in action tomorrow against Goshen at 10 a.m.
 
 
Game Highlights – St. Francis – 78 Cornerstone - 66
 
  • First Quarter
    • Maddison Fulks open the scoring for the Golden Eagles making both free throws to give Cornerstone an early 2-0 lead.
    • St. Francis would then get out to an 11-4 lead with 7:12 remaining in the first quarter.
    • Olivia Kubik would make back-to-back threes for the Golden Eagles to make it a 14-10 game.
    • St. Francis used an 8-0 run to make it a 22-10 game with four minutes remaining in the first quarter.
    • It was a slow end of the quarter for both teams as St. Francis leads 24-14 after the end of the first quarter.
 
  • Second Quarter
    • Maddison Fulks and Jaxi Long hit back-to-back threes to open the quarter for the Golden Eagles to make it a 24-20 game.
    • Mackenzie Stien makes a driving layup to make it a two-point game 24-22 with seven-minutes remaining in the second quarter.
    • The second quarter has been slow for St. Francis as Jaxi Long makes it a 28-27 game with two-minutes remaining.
    • St. Francis would head into halftime 32-30 lead after Jaylee Long made a three with 19 seconds remaining.
 
  • Third Quarter
    • St. Francis opened the third quarter with a two-minute 8-0 run to make it a 40-30 game with eight-minutes remaining.
    • Jaxi Long uses her own 5-0 run to make it a 44-37 game.
    • St. Francis had their largest lead of the game at 50-37 with three-minutes remaining in the third quarter.
    • Both teams would score ten points in the final three minutes as St. Francis would lead 60-47 after three quarters.
 
  • Fourth Quarter
    • Cornerstone opened the fourth quarter on a 7-2 run thanks to a layup from Mackenzie Stien and a three from Jaxi Long.
    • St. Francis has continued to maintain their lead as it is 69-56 with 5:37 remaining in the fourth.
    • Cornerstone used the next two-minute to go on a 6-0 run to make it 69-62.
    • A Jaylee Long three makes it a six-point game at 71-65 with two-minutes remaining in the fourth.
    • Cornerstone played the foul game down the stretch as St. Francis would knock down their free throws to win the game 78-66.
