FORT WAYNE, Ind. – After trailing at halftime, Cornerstone outscored Goshen 21-12 in the third quarter to take command and earn a 76-63 win vs. Goshen. Game Flow: Cornerstone – 76 Goshen - 63
First Quarter:
  • Roughly 12 hours after their first game, Cornerstone hit the floor again. Maddison Fulks picked up right where she left off with a three ball 10 seconds in for the first points of the game.
  • Goshen would then take the early lead at 14-6 on a jumper from Montasia McAllister.
  • A crucial three from Jaxi Long cut the Golden Eagle deficit to five, 16-11.
  • Another three from Olivia Kubik kept the game within reach after a quarter as the Golden Eagles trailed 22-16.
Second Quarter:
  • Again, it was Maddison Fulks scoring first in the second quarter. With 9:16 to go she hit yet another three to bring CU within three, 22-19.
  • After Goshen increased their lead back to six, Cornerstone started to find their inside game. Jaxi Long, Stephanie Ainsworth, and Megan Bennett all found layups to spark a 6-1 run. Cornerstone trailed 28-27 with 5:55 in the second quarter.
  • Every time Cornerstone got close, the Maple Leafs had a response. A 9-1 run capped off by a Kiana Oelling layup put Goshen on top by a game high eight, 37-29.
  • Cornerstone continued to push the ball into the post, and it resulted in a multitude of free throws in the final five minutes of the second quarter. Mackenzie Stien hit a pair and Stephanie Ainsworth hit three of four to put Cornerstone within three with 1:36 left in the half.
  • The deficit would stay at three points going into the half. Cornerstone trailed 42-39 as they were led by 11 first half points from Maddison Fulks
Third Quarter:
  • Rebounding continued to be a problem for the Golden Eagles early in the third quarter as Goshen saw multiple second and third chance opportunities. The CU offense would keep them close, but Goshen would score on each of their first three possessions on second or third chance opportunities.
  • With six minutes to go in the third quarter, Olivia Kubik would hit a deep three to again put Cornerstone back within one point at 49-48.
  • A pair of Stephanie Ainsworth made free throws would give Cornerstone their first lead of the game since the first minute at 51-50.
  • CU would push their lead even further with an 8-0 run that saw a Jaxi Long three-pointer and a Maddison Fulks jumper. Cornerstone led 56-50 with 3:27 to play in the third quarter.
  • Jaxi Long and a Goshen player collided head-to-head with 2:57 to play in the third quarter resulting in a long delay.
  • Cornerstone ended the fourth quarter with the run being capped at 12-4. CU led 60-54 going into the final 10 minutes of play.
Fourth Quarter:
  • At the end of the third quarter going into the fourth, Mackenzie Stien scored five straight points for the Golden Eagles to keep them in the lead. CU would use a full timeout with 7:05 to play leading 63-56.
  • Megan Bennett then recorded some big buckets inside using solid post moves to maintain the advantage. CU was unable to advance their lead, but they continued to hold a seven-point edge with five minutes to go.
  • With 3:12 to go, Stephanie Ainsworth recorded a big block preventing Goshen from finding any chance at a comeback. She also added some clutch buckets as the Golden Eagles would coast down the stretch to earn their first win of the season, 76-63.
