GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles and Wolverines found a plethora of offense in a back-and-forth contest at CU Soccer Field that ended in a 3-3- tie. Cornerstone fell behind quickly 1-0 before taking the lead. UM-Dearborn would find an equalizer twice to earn a point and move the Golden Eagle record to 3-5-3, 1-2-1 WHAC on the year. Next up for CU is Homecoming & Family Weekend as well as the Senior Recognition vs. Indiana Tech on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 UM-Dearborn - 3
First Half:
- UM-Dearborn caught the Golden Eagles napping early, scoring in the second minute. Austin Dukes made a great cross in from near the corner spot that found Noah Carmona to make it 1-0.
- Cornerstone woke up and immediately found a response in the sixth minute. On their first corner of the game Pablo Rodriguez found the head of Caleb Griffith to even the game at one. The senior Griffith scored his first goal in his career coming in from the backline on the corner.
- Calvin Curtis moments later would maneuver his way into the box and be clipped earning the Golden Eagles a penalty kick in the 10th minute. Tyler Corstange was selected to take the PK, and he was able to put the ball way for his fourth goal of the year, putting CU on top 2-1.
- The two defenses started to settle in better over the next 15 minutes, as the score remained 2-1.
- The long throw-in proved tough for the Golden Eagles as once again it created havock in the 36th minute. Roberto Gutierrez was able to punch the long throw away, but John Rogers was there at the top of the box for the Wolverines to rip in a goal and tie the game at two.
- The two sides would go into the break tied at two and each have three shots on goal.
Second Half:
- A high boot early in the second half led to the first yellow card of the match, as Dearborn's Ahmad Masood Afzali received the card.
- The physical play continued with Seth Campbell receiving a yellow in the 55th minute with the game still tied at two.
- Another foul led to a CU free kick. Jeff Herrema played in a beautiful ball at the 59:38 mark that found the head of Tyler Corstange for his second goal of the day and fifth of the season. Cornerstone would go back in front 3-2.
- The Wolverines immediately found a response in the 65th minute. Once again, the long throw led to the threat as Nicolas Pulcini picked up the ball on the backside and played a great pass into Xavier Walser for a header. UM-Dearborn tied the game at 3-3.
- In the 80th minute, Boston Knapp was handed a yellow card stopping a fast break. The score remained three all with 10 minutes to play.
- Neither side could find a fourth goal to pull out three points. The two sides settled for one in a 3-3 tie.
