Indiana Tech escapes men's soccer with a goal in the final minutes to win 2-1

 
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – It was a defense heavy match against Indiana Tech that saw Cornerstone lose 2-1. Indiana Tech scored early in the first half to get things going and the game remained the same for a good portion of time before Calvin Curtis scored an equalizer. The Warriors would use an 85th minute score to escape a tie from the Golden Eagles. There were six yellows given out alongside more fouls that shots in the game. Cornerstone is now 3-6-3 (1-3-1) on the season as they take on Aquinas on Wednesday, October 11 starting at 7 p.m.

First Half
  • Cornerstone gets the first real opportunity of the game in the 6th minute with a corner kick but unable to capitalize on the opportunity.
  • Christos Philippou dribbles his way through some Cornerstone defenders and lobs a shot over the keeper to score in the 8th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
  • The Warriors had four straight corner kick opportunities as the Golden Eagles stopped every chance that Indiana Tech thought they had in the 14th minute.
  • Another back-to-back corner kick opportunities for Indiana Tech in the 25th minute but was stopped by the Golden Eagle defense again.
  • Indiana Tech and Cornerstone battled as it got a little chippy as the Warriors head into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Second Half
  • Cornerstone had an opportunity in the 50th minute with a corner kick but was stopped by the defense of Indiana Tech.
  • Indiana Tech had an opportunity in the 55th minute to extend their lead by the shot by Philippou sailed just over the crossbar.
  • The game continued to be physical as multiple fouls keep happening for both teams with Jeff Herrema being the center of the fouls due to his physical defensive ability.
  • After a great slide tackle from Steven Stidham, he passed to Tyler Corstange who found Calvin Curtis who put a rocket in the back of the net in the 68th minute to tie the match 1-1.
  • Off a corner kick, Boston Knapp sent a shot just right of the goal as the game remains tied 1-1 in the 73rd minute.
  • Calvin Curtis used a nice move to get through the Indiana Tech defenders and his shot sailed just over the crossbar in the 77th minute.
  • Indiana Tech off the corner kick in the 83rd minute almost crossed the goal line but who else but Jeff Herrema with another defensive stop to keep it 1-1.
  • After a dribble down the line, a pass from Ryan Steele found the foot of Luke Jones as he scored to give Indiana Tech a 2-1 lead in the 85th minute.
  • Indiana Tech would play slow and keep away from the Golden Eagles as they escape with a 2-1 scrappy win.
