DEARBORN, Mich. – Cornerstone and Michigan-Dearborn battled out a back-and-forth match and eventually would end in a 1-1 draw.
Gracie Gortmaker got the scoring started early in the first half, but a second half PK by the Wolverines would tie it and the match would finish that way. A late second half shot by
Sierah Adams looked like it crossed the goal line but wasn't called as the draw moves Cornerstone to 5-2-2 (1-1-2) on the year. The Golden Eagles return home as they will take on Indiana Tech on Saturday, October 7 starting at 2:30 p.m. for homecoming weekend.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 1 UM-Dearborn - 1
First Half
- Cornerstone came out as the aggressors as 17 seconds into the game a shot by Gracie Gortmaker was saved by the Dearborn keeper.
- Gracie Gortmaker this time wasn't stopped by the keeper as she found the back of the net to give Cornerstone a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute.
- Cornerstone had good back-to-back opportunities in the 15th and 16th minute as the shots by Tori Woodwyk and Kaitlynn Sal sailed just wide.
- Dearborn had back-to-back corner kick opportunities in the 23rd minute but the defense of Cornerstone stopped any Wolverine chance.
- Emily Ake's shot on goal in the 43rd minute was saved by the Dearborn keeper as Cornerstone heads into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Second Half
- Dearborn came out as the aggressors to start the second half as 11 seconds in the half a shot sail high over the goal.
- Gracie Gortmaker continued to be aggressive with a shot in the 52nd minute but was saved by the Dearborn keeper.
- Morgan Scholten had a nice save in the 62nd minute as Cornerstone still leads 1-0.
- After a foul in the box, Dearborn cashed in on their penalty kick to tie the match 1-1 in the 69th minute.
- Sierah Adams had an opportunity in the 76th minute with a shot on goal that looked like it crossed the goal line, but the referee didn't call it and the Dearborn keeper saved it to keep it 1-1.
- The Golden Eagles continue to be aggressive as Tori Woodwyk's shot in the 81st was saved.
- A last second opportunity by the Golden Eagles in the 89th minute was saved again by the Dearborn keeper as Taya Andrzejewski had the shot on goal.
- Dearborn found a way to stop Cornerstone from scoring as the match ends in a 1-1 draw.
