GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles had a successful day for homecoming weekend seeing three different players score in the 3-0 victory over Indiana Tech.
Gracie Gortmaker got the scoring started followed by
Tori Woodwyk and
Arianna Rau as this was the sixth shutout of the year for Cornerstone. The win moves Cornerstone to 6-2-2 (2-1-2) on the season as they head into a tough matchup against #4 Aquinas on Wednesday, October 11 starting at 7 p.m.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Indiana Tech - 0
First Half
- The first opportunity of the game came in the first minute for the Golden Eagles as Sierah Adams shot went just wide left.
- A foul right outside the box gave Cornerstone a solid opportunity in the 5th minute but the header from Kaitlynn Sal misses just high.
- A through ball from Gracie Gortmaker finds the head of an Indiana Tech player and then a diving stop from the Warriror keeper to stop an own goal in the 17th minute.
- Cornerstone finally broke through as a pass from Scotland Philip found the foot of Gracie Gortmaker as she found the back of the net in the 21st minute to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.
- Tori Woodwyk had an opportunity in the 34th minute as her shot sailed left of the goal.
- Indiana Tech had an opportunity in the 36th minute with a corner kick but the defense of the Golden Eagles stopped any opportunity for the Warriors.
- After back-to-back opportunities with corner kicks in the 40th minute, the Golden Eagles finally capitalized as a header from Tori Woodwyk found the back of the net off the pass of Chloe Dood to make it 2-0.
- Cornerstone was the more aggressive team in the first half as they held Indiana Tech shot less in the first half as they lead 2-0 at the half.
Second Half
- It was just like the first half as 30 seconds into the half a shot from Gracie Gortmaker hit the post and out.
- Indiana Tech had an opportunity in the 54th minute with a shot heavily contested from Kaitlynn Sal, missing on their opportunity.
- Arianna Rau dribbles through some defenders and sends a shot past the Warrior keeper to extend the Golden Eagle lead 3-0 in the 57th minute.
- After a hand ball right outside the box, the shot from Karsyn Hostetler sails just over the goal in the 72nd minute.
- The defense of the Golden Eagles has held strong all match keeper the Warriors off the board with little to no opportunities.
- Cornerstone would win the match 3-0 thanks to solid defense and three goals from three different players.
