LIVONIA, Mich. – Women's Basketball will head into Thanksgiving happy as they go on the road and take down Madonna 80-65. Maddison Fulks led the way in the first half as Stephanie Ainsworth took over in the second half scoring a game high 24 points and grabbing nine rebounds. The defense played a key part in the victory for Cornerstone as they held Madonna to just 35% shooting for the game. Cornerstone moves to 3-2 (2-0) on the season as they will face off against Lourdes on Pack the House Night, Wednesday, November 29 starting at 5:30 p.m.
 
 
Game Highlights – Cornerstone – 80 Madonna - 65
 

• First Quarter
  • Cornerstone got the scoring started thanks to an and-one basket from Mackenzie Stien to give the Golden Eagles an early 3-0 lead.
  • Layups from Jaxi Long and Stephanie Ainsworth gave Cornerstone a 9-3 lead in the first three-minutes of the game.
  • The Golden Eagles have scored their next few points at the free throw line thanks to fouls from the Crusaders as they have extended their lead 17-9.
  • Maddison Fulks drills the first three pointer of the game for the Golden Eagles as they lead 20-11 with two-minutes remaining in the first quarter.
  • The defense of the Golden Eagles started out strong as Cornerstone leads 23-17 after one quarter of play. 
• Second Quarter
  • Maddison Fulks makes back-to-back threes for the Golden Eagles to stop the Madonna run as Cornerstone continues to lead 29-22.
  • The defense continued to get stops, which led to easy points for the Golden Eagles as Madonna used a timeout after Cornerstone used a 6-0 run to extend their lead 35-22 with five-minutes remaining in the second quarter.
  • Olivia Kubik hits a pullup jumper and Maddison Fulks follows that up with a three pointer that gave Cornerstone a 40-25 lead.
  • Madonna responded nicely with a 6-0 run of their own to cut into the Golden Eagles lead to make it 40-31 with a minute remaining in the half.
  • Cornerstone had a very nice first half leading 40-33 but have given up 12 offensive rebounds to the Crusaders through one half of play.
• Third Quarter
  • Stephanie Ainsworth and Jaxi Long got the scoring started in the second half for the Golden Eagles as it is 44-35 Cornerstone lead.
  • Madonna started the second half strong, pulling within four, 44-40 with six-minutes remaining in the third quarter.
  • Cornerstone used a 5-2 run that was capped off by a Mackenzie Stien layup that gave Cornerstone a 49-42 lead.
  • Stephanie Ainsworth scored the last five-points for the Golden Eagles to make it a 58-47 game with a minute remaining in the third quarter.
  • Stephanie Ainsworth capped off a strong third quarter with a huge block as Cornerstone leads by 11, 58-47 after the third quarter.
• Fourth Quarter
  • Cornerstone started the fourth quarter on a 6-2 run with layups from Emma Costen and Stephanie Ainsworth to make it a 64-49 Cornerstone lead.
  • Madonna used one of their own 6-2 runs to make it a 10-point ball game as Cornerstone leads 66-56 with six-minutes remaining.
  • Maddison Fulks and Stephanie Ainsworth continued to lead the way for the Golden Eagles as they continued to lead late in the fourth quarter, 73-60.
  • Jaxi Long continued to score down the stretch for the Golden Eagles as they can taste victory, up 79-65 with just over a minute left.
  • The Golden Eagles would close out the game victorious, winning 80-65.
