GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Women's Basketball opened Pack the House night with a 75-62 victory over Lourdes. The game was in the hands of the Golden Eagles all game as Lourdes made it a closer game in the fourth quarter thanks to a flurry of threes. Jaxi Long led the way for the Golden Eagles with 19 points as Stephanie Ainsworth got her first double-double of the year with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Cornerstone moves to 4-2 (3-0) on the season as they head to Concordia om Saturday, December 2 for a tipoff at 1 p.m.
 
 
Game Highlights – Cornerstone – 75 Lourdes - 62
 

• First Quarter
  • Cornerstone opened the first quarter on a 9-2 run thanks to multiple baskets from Golden Eagle players through the first three minutes.
  • Lourdes would slow down the Golden Eagle offense as Cornerstone leads 11-6 after an Olivia Kubik layup, five-minutes into the quarter.
  • Cornerstone used a 6-0 run to extend their lead 17-9 after a few baskets from Maddison Fulks.
  • The Golden Eagles would close out the first quarter leading 19-11 after a pair of Stephanie Ainsworth free throws.

 

• Second Quarter
  • Stephanie Ainsworth and Jaxi Long got the scoring started in the second quarter as the Golden Eagles are up to a 21-11 lead.
  • Jaxi Long drives hard and gets another easy score as she extends the Cornerstone lead 31-16 five-minutes into the second quarter.
  • Maddison Fulks hits a pullup jumper to give Cornerstone their biggest lead of the game 36-18 with two-minutes remaining in the second quarter.
  • The Golden Eagles head into halftime leading 36-20, with their defense leading the way holding Lourdes to 20 first half points.

 

• Third Quarter
  • Lourdes opened the third quarter drilling back-to-back threes to cut into the Cornerstone lead, 38-26.
  • Jaxi Long and Stephanie Ainsworth keep scoring for the Golden Eagles as they continue to lead 43-28 with six-minutes remaining in the third quarter.
  • Jaylee Long and Maddison Fulks score baskets for Cornerstone as they head into the media timeout up 47-31.
  • Mackenzie Stien ends a scoring drought for the Golden Eagles with a left-handed layup up to make it 51-35 Golden Eagles.
  • Olivia Kubik makes a three and Megan Bennett makes a free throw as Cornerstone leads 55-39 after the third quarter.

 

• Fourth Quarter
  • Jaxi Long and Stephanie Ainsworth got the scoring started in the fourth for the Golden Eagles as they traded baskets with Lourdes two-minutes into the fourth quarter.
  • Jaylee Long ends a three-minute scoring drought between Cornerstone and Lourdes with a corner three to give Cornerstone the 62-43 lead.
  • Lourdes has gone on an 10-0 run to cut into the Golden Eagle lead 62-53 with two-minutes remaining.
  • Lourdes continued to put the pressure on the Golden Eagles with another three to make it 66-58 Cornerstone lead. The passive offense from Cornerstone has not worked well for them in the fourth, one minute remaining.
  • Cornerstone closed out the game from the free throw line as they take down Lourdes 75-62.
